MORE than 170 people turned up for Last month’s 80th anniversary grand reunion of the Duke of Buccleuch’s Pony Club.
Attendees travelled from as far as Devon and London and the ages ranged from four to 84. Nearly 40 riders enjoyed a two-hour ride round the the duke’s home at Bowhill Estate, outside Selkirk while a similar number had a guided tour of Bowhill House.
Everyone tucked into delicious pork rolls in the marquee while looking at old photos and other memorabilia and listening to speeches and reminiscences.
There were large numbers of former members from the 1950s and 1960s, including the daughters of one of the founding members and the grandson of the first district commissioner.
The oldest guest was an instructor in the 1930s. The rain stayed away, the marquee stayed up and members from seven decades mingled and enjoyed the day.
