A new bridge on Plumtreehall Brae in Galashiels will be installed this weekend as part of the Borders Railway project.
As a result, King Street will be closed from tomorrow (Friday, May 30) to Monday, (June 2) so that a large crane can lift the 30-ton bridge into place.
During the works, motorists will be diverted via Windyknowes Road and Hall Street, while pedestrian and local access will be maintained.
Hugh Wark, project director for Network Rail, told us: “The installation of the bridge follows the recent installation of bridges in Wheatlands Road and Currie Road and marks another crucial part of the jigsaw in helping to bring the Borders Railway to life in Galashiels.
“With major works of this kind, some disruption is to be expected and we apologise in advance for the inconvenience caused to residents and local businesses while we crane the bridge into place.
“Once the bridge lift has taken place, we will be able to return to working on the bridge without impacting on the local road network. We thank the local community for their patience during this time.”
