With talk of heroes near and far over the festive season, we would like your readers to know about our local hero in Morebattle.
Alan Thomson, who works for Scottish Borders Council and lives in the village, has been fantastic during the recent snow and ice. Often Morebattle can become a little cut off from civilisation and snowploughs when the white stuff falls, like many small villages in the Borders.
Alan, who has two children at Morebattle Primary School, has gone well beyond the call of duty and was out every morning and Sunday nights, making sure that all routes right up to the school entrance were clear of snow and ice, and safe for children, parents and staff to walk on. He cleared all the car park so that staff could get cars off the main road and all of the front of the school in order for parents to pick up and drop off their children safely.
He never expects any thanks or a pat on the back, but his thoughtfulness and hard work has meant that, when it has been open, Morebattle Primary School has been able to provide a safe entrance for all children and staff during this winter weather.
