Mellerstain music

THE Borders Music and Arts Society welcome Timothy Orpen (clarinet) and Alison Farr (piano) on Thursday, June 30 for their latest concert at Mellerstain.

The pair will include works by Brahms, Finzi, Poulenc, Weber and Widmann in their performance, and tickets are priced at £20.50 for non-members, with supper priced at £6.

Tickets can be bought from Kathy Carroll on 01835 864120 for the show which starts at 7.30pm.

The society had a successful concert at earlier this month when pianist Julian Evans, who has previously performed 100 concerts, delighted all with his vigorous performance.

He began with the Moonlight Sonata followed by Schumann’s Fantasiestucke, all eight pieces being played in the appropriate mood.

To end the evening he rendered the Sonata in B minor by Liszt and in playing through the four themes he displayed a perfect mastery of the intricate piece.
