I noted with interest reports of Secretary of State for Scotland Michael Moore’s meeting with Alex Salmond on Thursday. I certainly hope the plight of the Scottish construction sector was high up the agenda.
I was scheduled to meet Mr Moore that afternoon, but was bumped in favour of our First Minister-in- waiting. C’est la vie.
I have been attempting to meet the Secretary of State since last June, when Danny Alexander briefly held that post. The meeting has been postponed on at least four separate occasions.
I do hope that Alex Salmond’s meeting was productive and that he took the opportunity to press Michael Moore on the Scottish Building Federation’s long-standing call for the UK Treasury to reduce VAT on home repairs and improvements to five per cent – something the SNP supported in its election manifesto.
In the meantime I will continue to pursue my challenge to meet our Secretary of State in the flesh.
