I write to thank Makerstoun village hall committee for the lovely party held for me on October 5.
It was a great honour to be presented with the Scottish Poppy Appeal’s President’s Award to mark my 50 years of collecting for the fund. The presentation was given on behalf of the president by Lieutenant Colonel Colin Hogg, Lady Mary and Isla Campbell Lupton.
It was indeed a wonderful evening for me and my family – something I will treasure for ever.
Thanks also to the residents of Makerstoun for the beautiful bouquet of flowers.
The open day exhibition held by Tweedbank Art Club was a great success.
I would like to thank everyone who came for their generosity. Overall, more than £1,300 was raised towards the Isla Duncan Medical Fund. This included the sale of raffle tickets, specially donated paintings and craft work, and donations for the teas and coffees, and wonderful home baking.
I would also like to thank art club members who gave their time and talent, enabling the staging of the exhibition, and not forgetting the ladies who not only baked scones and cakes, but also served the public and washed hundreds of cups and plates.
