Lothian and Borders Police hunt Berwickshire jewellery thieves

DETECTIVES are probing a £50,000 jewellery raid on a house in Main Street, Gavinton, writes Bob Burgess.

The high value theft was discovered on Friday afternoon by a family member who spotted the Berwickshire property had been forcibly entered.

The raid could have taken place anytime since the previous Saturday although police are keen to trace a white transit van which was spotted in the area on Friday.

Detective Constable Keith Brydon of Lothian and Borders Police said: “The property owners have been left devastated by the theft of their jewellery and are keen to have the items returned as soon as possible.

“We would like to hear from anyone who remembers seeing anything suspicious in the Main Street area of Gavinton between February 9 and 15.”

“We are particularly keen to speak to those who remember seeing a white Transit van, which was seen outside the address on Friday afternoon.

“Similarly, anyone with any other information that can assist with our investigation is also asked to come forward.”

Those with information can contact Lothian and Borders Police on 0131 311 3131, or the charity Crimestoppers in complete anonymity on 0800 555 111.
