Yoga tutor praised

Jane Russell Retiral

Jane Russell Retiral

THE sterling efforts of a long-term supporter of the evening classes run by Selkirk Community Council were acknowledged last week.

Jane Russell, who has been the yoga tutor for more than two decades, officially retired at the end of her final six-week course last Thursday and was presented with a quaich, bearing the town’s coat of arms, by Tommy Combe, chairman of the evening study sub-committee.

Tom thanked Jane for her service to the community and its wellbeing and then issued a plea for more potential tutors with special skills to come forward.

The current range of classes, which include patchwork, upholstery and stick dressing are coming to a close, and are due to resume after the summer holidays.

“We need a minimum of 10 students to make a course sustainable,” said Mr Combe.

“But due to lack of interest we have seen a range of classes, including woodwork, basic computing, calligraphy and German language, fall by the wayside.

“The value we offer is unbeatable – £3 a night or £30 for a 10-week course – so we want to hear from potential students about what interests them and also from tutors from any area of expertise and we will try to match them up before the end of August.”

If you are interested in studying or teaching, call Tommy on 20921.
