Westruther seeks new direction...

FOR the past eight years, Westruther Community Players have staged a series of successful performances in the village hall.

The small but thriving theatre group has been encouraged by the enthusiastic reaction of audiences to a diverse range of challenging material.

But in 2009, after a spectacularly popular run of John Godber’s duo of plays, Bouncers and Shakers, the director emigrated.

And now the company is inviting applications for a replacement.

“We’ve muddled through by self-directing and the audiences have remained hugely supportive,” exlained WCP chair Rosi Capper.

“But the reason we started in 2003 was not only a shared loved of drama, but also a desire to tackle some really meaty, controversial work.

“Since our director left, we’ve been able to take on one-act plays, such as The Church Meeting and last November’s Two Fat Men, but we really want to get back to the more challenging two-act stuff.

“We believe this is an opportunity for an aspiring director to really make his or her mark in this pivotal role.

“So applications are invited from enthusiastic individuals who hare prepared to give up some time to direct our future productions. While previous directing experience is not essential, passion and commitment definitely are.

“Notwithstanding the director’s role, we always extend a warm welcome to anyone interested in joining our friendly group either as a performer or behind the scenes.”
