Weather update: crash causes A72 road closure

THE A72 road has been shut for two hours after a car and a Royal Mail vehicle collided in wintry conditions.

The accident happened at around 12.15pm near the Nest Roundabout a mile outside Clovenfords.

The car involved, a Renault Megane, end up down an embankment, but no-one was injured in the incident.

First Bus were forced to cancel a number of its 62 services which run along the A72 because of the road closure.

Snow continues fall in Selkirk, and conditions are described as poor in Berwickshire, although the A697 between Greenlaw and Carfraemill has reopened, as has the A68 at Carter Bar.

Police have reported no other serious road incidents in the region.

The amber warning for heavy snow issued by the Met Office is due to end at 6pm today.
