Tory hopeful walks away from Scottish Lib Dem seat.
In a shock move, Conservative candidate Chris Walker has quit the battle to take the Berwickshire, Roxburgh and Selkirk Westminster seat from the Liberal Democrats.
The constituency has been targeted by the Scottish Conservative Leader Annabel Goldie as winnable.
The Kirkudbright hotelier says his decision to stand down ahead of a General Election was difficult but was made because of work commitments.
Mr Walker commented : "This was a hard decision to take but my work commitments have made it increasingly difficult for me to give my all to the people of Berwickshire, Roxburgh & Selkirk.
Tories hope to gain on ground won
He added :"I know the Conservatives can win this seat - the Scottish Parliament elections and the European elections have shown that."
The seat is held for the Lib Dems by Michael Moore. He has a majority of 5,901 over the Tories.
But his share of the vote at the 2005 General Election fell by 5 per cent while the Conservatives saw their share rise by 6.8 per cent.
John Lamont who fought the Conservative corner in 2005 went on to take oust sitting Lib Dem MSP Euan Robson at the Scottish Parliamentary Elections in 2007 in the Roxburgh and Berwickshire seat.
A candidate to replace Mr Walker will be appointed next month.
