Hawick councillor Ron Smith will return to his post of chairman of SBC’s planning committee after being forced to step down earlier this year over a failure to declare an interest in a planning matter.
Mr Smith will take the November meeting after being elected at a meeting of the full council on Wednesday.
It follows an agreement to revamp the committee, cutting the number of members to nine.
However, the Conservatives have accused the administration of politicising the committee by ensuring seven members come from the administration and just two from the opposition.
Councillors Brown, Moffat, Gillespie, White and Smith will sit on the committee. The Conservatives have yet to nominate their two members.
