Smashing cycle

Kelso Tennis Club expects to have raised more than £700 for Macmillan Cancer Care with its successful charity event held on September 22, writes Heather Jeffrey.

Ten sponsored adults set off on a 33-mile ride at 9am, finishing between three and six hours later, after enjoying a day of cycling and picnicking around Kelso, Dryburgh, Melrose and Newstead.

The same day, the tennis club’s youth/disability worker coach and her assistants had organised a day of fun and games for the juniors.

Club member Kate Laing raised £100 with her home baking alone, and there were also toasties, refreshments and home baking donated by members.

After discovering that Tennis Scotland was involved with Macmillan, the club decided to split the money raised at their event 50/50 with Macmillan Cancer Care. Organisers estimate the final total realised is around £1,300.
