A CHARITY rugby match played in memory of Lauder policeman Steve Cully raised more than £9,500 in Edinburgh earlier this month.
The game between Lothian and Borders Police (LBP) officers and Scottish rugby legends played in the rain at police headquarters at Fettes on Sunday, September 16, raised the cash for Chest, Heart and Stroke Scotland.
The event was organised in memory of former officer Steve, who died suddenly aged 41 due to a heart defect.
One of Steve’s friends and former colleagues, Sergeant Roddy Bainton, who helped organise the event, said: “We are all genuinely touched by the generosity shown by everyone who braved the weather at Fettes on the Sunday.
“More than 1,500 people turned out to support the team who were put through their paces by the Scotland select.
“We are hugely grateful to everyone who donated their money, and would like to thank them for their encouragement on the day – we know this money will make a significant difference to a very worthy cause.”
The final score was LBP 10, Steve Cully Scotland Select 34.
