Police say Hawick death not suspicious

POLICE have confirmed they are not treating the death of a man in a Hawick street as suspicious.

The 61-year-old local man was found unconscious after collapsing on Fenwick Park at 8pm on Saturday, and despite a member of the public performing CPR and a doctor attending to assist, he passed away at the scene.

Police officers carried out door-to-door enquiries in an effort to establish who the married man was, before he was formally identified by a family member on Sunday morning.

Fenwick Park was closed off on Saturday night as investigations were carried out but a police spokesman said that is normal procedure in such cases.

The man is believed to have lived on a street near to where he collapsed.
