ELEVEN people have been arrested today (Wednesday) following one of the biggest police drugs operations in the Borders, writes Kenny Paterson.
More than 100 officers raided 11 properties in Galashiels, Hawick, Kelso and Selkirk throughout this morning and afternoon, with enquiries also made at other addresses.
And subsequent searches recovered £3,000 in cash and 30 deals of the Class A drug heroin, as well as valium, a cultivation and personal quantities of cannabis and typical dealers’ equipment such as scales.
In total, nine men aged 49, 23, 29, 40, 42, 38, 31, 40 and 43 and two women aged 44 and 39 were arrested and charged under the Misuse of Drugs Act. They are expected to appear in court tomorrow (Thursday).
Raids took place throughout the day, meaning full details of Operation Goal - a multi-agency initiative alongside NHS Borders and Scottish Borders Council to identify street dealers - were only available late Wednesday afternoon, after TheSouthern went to press.
Local area commander, Superintendent Andrew Allan, said the raids were carried out under Operation Goal, a joint initiative with Scottish Borders Council and NHS Borders, which acted on tip-offs from the public.
He said: “We are hoping people will see this and have confidence in us to provide further information about drug dealing in the area.”
