Parishes lose sensitive status

THE designation of the Kirkhope and Ettrick parishes as sensitive to forestry planting has been removed by Scottish Borders Council.

However, Rob Dickson, director of environment and infrastructure, emphasised to members of the full council last week that the designation was only meant to be temporary and that the new technical advice note produced would make the council’s woodland strategy more robust.

Mr Dickson also highlighted that the new advice note would assist the Forestry Commission and council to respond better to applications for planting schemes.

The new advice note is the result of a review of the council’s woodland strategy.
