Bob Hurren, of Borders Exploration Group (BEG), bravely bore the pain of his fundraising effort, raising more than £250 for the group’s Malawi expedition in July.

Beautician Julie Johnstone, of Beautiful Truth in Kelso, performed the sponsored leg wax at the town’s high school.

Bob commented afterwards: “I got both my legs done, up to the knee – and it hurt. It hurt quite a lot!”

BEG members – about 20-30 young people aged between 16-25, will be in Malawi for three weeks. They hope work with communities affected by leprosy and on small game reserves, performing manual labour in an attempt to help out the less fortunate or protect the animals from poachers.

Bob’s father managed to get a front-row position at the leg waxing to capture his son’s ordeal on video which can be seen via our website – www.thesouthernreporter.co.uk.
