Monument part missing
A SECTION of flag pole from Hawick’s historic 1514 monument remains missing – despite a man being charged with vandalism.
Police say the three-foot pole has been removed from where the 28-year-old claims he left it – behind a green telecom box on the pavement next to Lindsey & Gilmour chemists in Oliver Crescent.
Inspector Paula Clark said: “Now that a person has been charged with vandalism, we would be very grateful if the missing section could be returned. This would assist in greatly reducing the costs of repairs.”
Information can be passed to Hawick police on 01450 375051 or anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
The pole was snapped off between November 18 and 21, and police launched a campaign to find the culprit, resulting in an arrest last month.
