fountainhall school pupil Millie Thomson has an extra reason for enjoying Christmas.

Her fantastic design has been chosen by local MP Michael Moore to adorn the front of his festive card. And the delighted Scottish Secretary paid a special visit to Millie’s school to give the P1 pupil his personal thanks.

But the man battling to keep Scotland in the UK found his annual Christmas card design competition was just as tough a problem.

He commented: “I received so many fantastic entries from schools across the Borders, it was very difficult deciding on a winner.

“After much deliberation, I chose Millie’s design and it was great to be able to congratulate her in person. Her artwork will appear on the front of my Christmas card and will be sent to hundreds of my friends, family and colleagues.”

He added: “I want to thank all the students who took part for their brilliant creative efforts.

“A special congratulations is also due to the eight runners up whose entries are now on display in my constituency office window and being admired by many passers-by.”

Runners-up were: Charlotte Tuckwood, P3 Kirkhope; Rhiannon Gerrard, P7 Glendinning, Galashiels; Gosha Czerwinska, Drumlanrig, Hawick; Liam Hyslop, P6 Heriot; Ryan McMichan, P3 Drumlanrig, Hawick; Sophie Bell, P5 Heriot; Kyle Lothian, P3 Balmoral; Galashiels, and Olga Burt-Smith, P7
Kirkhope.
