Marie Curie Care talking about the Daffodil Walk

Think daffodils. The snow may be barely melted off the dyke backs, but Marie Curie Cancer Care is making advance preparations for the Daffodil Walk at Borders General Hospital.

This April’s walk will mark 20 years since Anne Macintyre and her volunteers planted the daffodils to create the amazing spectacle in the Field of Hope at the Borders General Hospital.

Veterans of the first walk and newcomers are invited to this year’s event, on April 7. There is the traditional two-mile route along the Field of Hope and, as last year, there will also be a 10km walk.

Both start and finish at the Careshare Nursery in the hospital, the 10km walk at 1pm and the traditional walk at 2pm.

Tea and coffee with home baking will be available from 1pm at the Careshare Nursery, for walkers and non-walkers.

The Field of Hope walk will be led, as always, by the Jedburgh British Legion Pipe Band.

The 10km walk, set up with the Melrose Paths Group, will take in glorious scenery along paths and wooded areas, past Abbotsford, Lowood, back into Melrose and finishing along the Field of Hope.

Registration is not needed for the short walk, just turn up and make a donation in the buckets available.

Pre-registration, costing £10, is required for the 10km. Numbers are limited and places must be booked before March 31.

Walkers are encouraged to find sponsors – every £20 pays for an hour of local Marie Curie nursing.

Marie Curie Cancer Care provides hands-on nursing to allow patients with cancer and othere terminal illnesses to be cared for at home.
