Local charity sees a UK first

Borders-based furniture recycling charity, Home Basics, has become the first of its kind in the UK to introduce a gift aid scheme for all items that are donated to their depots in Walkerburn and Hawick.

Through investment in a new Cybertill system, Home Basics will be able to introduce gift aid which will let the charity become more sustainable and reclaim tax on its donations.

Chairperson Alf Oliver told us: “We would encourage everyone, provided they are a tax payer to sign a gift aid declaration when they donate an item.”

Home Basics helps people on a limited budget create a comfortable home environment by providing access to donated items.
