Knife man held after incident

POLICE arrested a man and charged him with possession of a knife in Galashiels town centre following a disturbance at a local bank on Tuesday.

But Lothian and Borders Police have stressed that a knife had not been used in the incident at the Satander bank in Channel Street.

A police spokesman said : “The incident at Santander was a male who caused a disturbance in the bank by shouting before leaving of his own accord. He was later arrested and at that time was found in possession of a knife.

“The knife was not presented or displayed in any way within the bank or at any other time prior to the arrest.”

A 56-year-old man was due to appear from custody before a sheriff yesterday.
