They have been given six of them by Scottish Borders Council to help with litter-picking.

The Bloomers have just delivered 1,500 leaflets round the town, giving information on the year to come, as well as hoping for donations towards the cost of more than £9,000 for this year’s plants.

They are also hoping more people will come forward to join the group – it’s a way of meeting people if you are recently retired or a new resident of the town. Horticultural experience is not necessary.

Anyone interested should phone Christine (01896 820561)or Pam (01896 822024).

Melrose in Bloom’s next meeting is on April 15 in the Ormiston Room at 7.30pm.
