Historic bridge closed due to bad weather
THE A7 Old Tweed Bridge near Selkirk has been closed again to pedestrians on safety grounds due to the recent adverse weather.
The bridge had been recently reopened to pedestrian and cycle users when new fencing was installed to provide a delineated pathway across the old bridge prior to refurbishment work starting later this year.
BEAR Scotland’s Operating Company Representative for the South East, Ian Stewart, explained: “Access across the bridge has been temporarily closed due to deterioration of the bridge over the recent period of adverse weather. It is hoped to reinstate the temporary pedestrian and cycle access in the near future after temporary propping works.
“Ongoing liaison with Scottish Borders Council and relevant parties will ensure the works will be carried out as quickly as possible, whilst preserving this listed structure.”
The project is being carried out by BEAR Scotland Ltd on behalf of Transport Scotland. The bridge will reclose during the refurbishment.
