A PONY rescued from a bog on Christmas Day was given a central role at the wedding of it’s owner.
Herbie had to be freed by eight by firefighters, two parents and a vet after becoming mired in the mud near the couple’s home at The Glen estate near Innerleithen, and made the national headlines for his troubles. But there was no such drama when owner Phoebe Lowe and her fianceé Colin Stewart were married at Traquair Kirk.
And as Herbie’s story had a happy ending, so the wedding photographs had to include the 24-year-old grey connemara pony, with a special photo shoot arranged.
Phoebe, an assistant curator with Scottish Borders museums service based in Selkirk, is the daughter of Scottish Borders Council’s social work chief Andrew Lowe and his wife Ruth.
Colin who works for the Bank of Scotland in Peebles is the younger son of Colin and Barbara Stewart of Galashiels.
The wedding was witnessed by an international congregation, with guests from Alberta and Ontario in Canada, Boston and San Francisco USA, New South Wales and Capital Territory Australia, alpine France, Scotland, Ireland, England and Wales, and later 130 guests enjoyed the wedding reception at the Barony Castle, Eddleston.
