Heavy snow hits the Borders: all schools open and roads passable

SNOW has returned to the Borders overnight, affecting transport across the region.
Around four inches lies in towns such as Galashiels this morning, with Scottish Borders Council reporting that all roads are passable with care despite the blizzard conditions.
All schools are open but 12 school bus services are not operating due to the conditions.
And First Bus say many of its public services are delayed.
SBC report that its team of gritters were out at 3pm yesterday and then through the night from 10pm.
A number of vehicles have been involved in minor accidents, including two cars forced off the road near Gordon.
The A68 at Carter Bar is still open but Traffic Scotland have warned that drivers to exercise caution negotiating the border crossing.
Any further snow showers are expected to ease off this afternoon.
