HEALTH Champions have completed a six-week course at Borders College to train as “ambassadors” in order to spread the word about health and wellbeing within their own community. It is run in partnership with the Scottish Borders Joint Learning Disability Service.

Councillor Frances Renton, executive member for social work at Scottish Borders Council, commented: “I am delighted to see the hard work and dedication of this year’s Health Champions being acknowledged with the presentation of their certificates. Like previous graduates before them, they have an important job to do acting as role models and influencing others to keep healthy.”

Six students who completed the course were presented with certificates by college vice principal Heather Anderson. They will now work in small teams in different locations across the region with support from the joint learning disability service.

Eight students completed the course – Karen Hogg (Eyemouth), Marcia Lauder (Coldstream), Callum McFarlane (Kelso), David Silk (Westruther), Marc Toolan (Hawick), Matthew Watson (Galashiels), Catherine Wilson (Hawick) and Ronald Young (Kelso).
