Hawick park goes bats for bats and moths

Wilton Lodge Park in Hawick is going a bit batty next Friday (May 30) with the launch of its Raiders of the Park series.

The first event will be a bats and moths night walk with bat expert Dougie MacKenna at 9.30pm (next Friday).

Local moth recorder, Teyl de Bordes, will also be on hand with his moth trap to look at the different species of moths that can be found in the park.

The park’s event manager Gordon Webber said: “We wanted to build on the Bioblitz programme held at the museum last year so we thought it would be interesting to take the idea of Reivers and raiders and see what kind of wildlife fits that theme.

“It is all a great opportunity to learn batty facts and mothy tidbits with local wildlife experts.”

The Raiders of the Park series continues with a focus on the River Teviot on the Saturday 19 July and a drop-in activity session entitled Explore and Create on Saturday 23 August.
