Handba’ throw down to Josh

JEDBURGH Grammar School head boy Josh Cressey performs the traditional ‘throw up’ of the Candlemas Handba’ at the weekend.

The event, at the Mercat Cross at noon on Saturday, heralds the handba’ play day later in the month.

The game itself may take on a romantic air – the battle between the Uppies and the Doonies will be held in the Royal Burgh on Thursday, February 14, with the Laddies Ba’ starting at noon and the Men’s Ba’ following from 2pm.

The Jethart Ba’ dates back centuries.
