Get set for forest festival

TWEED Valley Forest Festival, celebrating forests and wood, starts tomorrow.

Organisers Treefest Partnership say almost 4,000 people attended last year’s event. And the partnership’s Iain Laidlaw said this year’s nine-day celebration is shaping up to be “a fantastic event”.

“Our dynamic team of Treefest partners have pulled together to lay on a fascinating blend of indoor and outdoor events. Thanks to all the organisers, the festival should be brilliant so I’d urge everyone to join in the fun and get a real taste of the history and culture in this stunning part of the Tweed Valley.”

Highlights for this year include the third Scottish Conker Championship, a two-day Wood Market which offers a fantastic opportunity to buy wood products direct from the makers, plus spooky events and Halloween activities at Traquair House, Bowhill House and Kailzie Gardens. Two wood-themed exhibitions will run throughout the event which finishes on Sunday, November 1.

Other attractions include a bike skills competition, Peebles Food Festival, the Borders Big Tree Hunt talk and tour, moon watching and a children’s mountain bike event.
