Further drugs raids in Galashiels, Hawick, Kelso, Melrose and Selkirk - 12 more arrested

FURTHER raids were carried out this morning (Thursday) on the second day of the Borders’ biggest police operation for years.

A total of 11 addresses in Galashiels, Hawick, Kelso and Selkirk were targeted by around 100 officers on the first day of Operation Goal on Wednesday.

And today saw a further 10 homes in the same towns, as well as Melrose, also raided, with £1,000 worth of Class A drug cocaine seized.

About 30 street deals of heroin, along with valium, a cannabis cultivation and personal amounts of the Class C drug were recovered on Wednesday.

Overall, 23 people - 11 from Wednesday and 12 from today - have now been arrested under the Misuse of Drugs Act. Those charged on Wednesday are to appear later today at Jedburgh Sheriff Court, while the remaining dozen arrested today are due to appear in court tomorrow.

Detective Chief Inspector Amanda McGrath said: “I am delighted by the support received from local communities as well as the effort and dedication which was carried out by officers yesterday.

“Following this up with further activity today will send out a clear message to others involved in the supply of illegal drugs, that the police continue a zero tolerance approach to drug dealing in the Scottish Borders.”

The addresses targeted on Wednesday included Langlee, St Andrews Street and Wood Street in Galashiels, Bridge Street in Selkirk, Orchard Park and Grovehill in Kelso and Union Street, Howdenbank and Duke Street in Hawick.

Today saw the police swoop on Tulley Court, Balmoral Avenue and Glendinning Terrace in Galashiels, Buccleuch Road in Selkirk, Tweed Court in Kelso, Drumlanrig Square, Elm Court, Noble Place and Glebe Mill Court in Hawick and Priors Walk in Melrose.
