Explorer Scouts build more than rafts in winter expedition

Borders District Explorer Scouts. 30 Explorer Scouts and Leaders from Borders District Explorer Scout Section attended a District outdoor camp at Bonaly Scout Centre, near Edinburgh.

THIRTY Explorer Scouts and Leaders from the Borders attended a camp at Bonaly Scout Centre, near Edinburgh, and took part in raft-building and canoeing.

Next summer, Explorer Scouts from Galashiels and Eyemouth will be on a Borders district-run expedition to the island of Taiwan, just off the coast of mainland China, to participate in a cultural exchange with Taiwanese Scouts.

The Year of the Dragon is being celebrated, and at a training camp this festive event was marked by making huge dragon masks – which actually breathed fire!

Explorer Scouts from Eyemouth are also venturing to Norway for an international Scout camp, while Robert Bathgate, an Explorer Scout from Galashiels, is taking part in an Explorer Belt Expedition to Estonia. This involves a 10-day trek throughout the countryside, carrying out projects along the route while meeting local people.
