Ex-provost dies at 88

Alexander Walker, provost of Peebles from 1967 to 1970, died peacefully on Saturday at Peebles Nursing Home. He was 88.

As a Tweeddale district councillor, Mr Walker helped bridge the transition from Peebles Town Council to the new district authority.

He was awarded an MBE for services to local government and the Peebles community.
