Drugs help praised

HEALTH bosses this week were praised for the speed with which NHS Borders is helping people with drug additions.

NHS Borders has exceeded the Scottish Government-set target of helping 90 per cent of patients within three weeks, nine months ahead of schedule (March 2013).

Latest figures show local health workers are helping 92.1 per cent of addicts within the prescribed time limit.

South of Scotland MSP Paul Wheelhouse said: “It is clear NHS Borders staff have worked hard to meet the 90 per cent target for treatment and in doing so they have exceeded it. It is testimony to their dedication that we see 92 per cent of those seeking drug rehabilitation in the region being treated within three weeks.” He also said that Borders Addiction Services is one of the highest performing services in Scotland.
