JEDBURGH is to have its first Citizens Advice Bureau (CAB) in the new year as the service sets up a drop-in centre for young people.

Youthinfo@CAB will run for an eight-week trial period in the town’s health centre on Tuesday afternoons (3.30pm to 5pm) from January 8, thanks to cash from Fairer Scotland and the Bank of Scotland Foundation.

Roxburgh and Berwickshire Citizens Advice Bureau’s young person’s adviser, Annette McGraith said: “The project is to help any person between 16 and 25, and their families if need be. It’s been so successful in Berwickshire we want to match that success in Roxburghshire and, with Jedburgh never having had a CAB presence before, we wanted to make sure there is a level of equality across the area.”

The charity advises on debt and money matters, work, benefits, consumer problems and relationships. And Ms McGraith goes into schools and Borders College to raise the organisation’s profile.

The service’s website is www.onlineborders/community/bycab and it has a Facebook page (Youthinfo@CAB) and is on Twitter (@annettemcgraith).
