BOG off to a great start
MORE than 1,000 people went to Borders Organic Gardeners' (BOG) Potato Day in Kelso at the beginning of the month.
Potato sales at 12p a tuber made the organisation 3,500, the onion, garlic and root trainer sales brought in another 1,000 and total takings for the day were over 6,000.
BOG treasurer Keith Banyard said: “It was a great day for gardeners on both sides of the Border and a pretty successful day for BOG.
“Our organisation is more interested in spreading the word than making money – which we plough back into our other organic enterprises – and it was obvious there were bigger crowds this year.
“Last year admissions takings also reflected the sale of our woven shopping bags for the first time so to match that figure this time out was tremendous.
“We had a great day, the public seemed to love it and we are grateful for all the support for what is now a fixture in the Borders calendar.”
