Body in Selkirk river
THE BODY of an angler was pulled from the river in Selkirk on Tuesday morning.
A walker spotted the 69-year-old from Fife in the Ettrick Water by the footbridge in Bannerfield at about 11.40am.
Police say the man had been seen fishing alone upstream not long before. It is thought his death may have had a medical cause.
The body was brought to the bank by members of the Borders Underwater Search Team, helped by Tweed Valley Mountain Rescue Team (TVMRT), in a two-hour operation.
TVMRT’s leader Steve Penny said: “We were happy to be able to assist. Our team has trained in bankside work and has appropriate safety equipment and that allowed us to act as safety cover for those in the water.”
As we went to press yesterday, the man’s identity was being withheld until relatives were informed.
