Blind school finds silver lining at Bowhill
MORE than £1,500 was raised for the Royal Blind School at an exhibition of the Duke of Buccleuch's famous silver collection.
The event, at Bowhill House, also featured a lecture by Gordon Macfarlane, director of auctioneering house, Bonhams of Scotland.
Guests, who were also given the opportunity to have personal items valued, enjoyed champagne and canaps in Bowhill’s Italian Room and were given guided tours of other reception rooms, learning about the varied treasures on display.
“The silver exhibition featured items from the strong room which are not normally on public view,” said Jan Watson, chairperson of the Borders committee which helps raise funds for the Edinburgh school.
She went on:“We are very grateful to the duke, who is president of the Royal Blind School, for hosting our summer event, and the generosity of those who paid 25 to attend.”
Mrs Watson would be pleased to hear from Southern readers who would like to be put on the guest list for forthcoming fundraisers. She can be contacted on 01750 76316.
