AROUND 6,000 primary pupils in the Borders are supporting October’s UK-wide Walk to School month.

They will join children from 40 countries worldwide to celebrate the benefits of walking to school.

Parents and carers are being urged to ditch cars for a minimum of one week or at least have children walk part of the school route.

Schools travel coordinator Karen McGrath said : “Walking is a brilliant way of working towards our recommended 60 minutes of physical activity each day.
