Borders personality Henry Douglas was the toast of council headquarters at Newtown St Boswells last week when he was presented with his Order of the British Empire medal.

The Ex-Acting Father and renowned Hawick Common Riding singer received the honour from the Lord Lieutenant of Roxburgh, Ettrick and Lauderdale, the Hon. Gerald Maitland-Carew, for services to the Bonchester community.

Surrounded by family and friends, the retired farmer – who was last year’s Common Riding chief guest – said: “It was a very special night and I thoroughly enjoyed it,” he stated. “I was delighted and it was quite an experience for the whole family.”
