GALASHIELS and Lauder celebrated their friendly relationship with the 80th anniversary of the Threepwood rideout last Friday.
Braw Lad and Lass Lewis Playfair and Suzanne Henry met Lauder Cornet Iain Dick and his Lass Anneka Ker at the halfway point between the towns.
About 135 riders from Galashiels and Lauder followed the principals to Threepwood.
Iain said: “It was my first official rideout as Cornet, and although I had a few nerves, everything went well despite a rain shower.
“It has finally sunk in that I am Lauder Cornet and I am looking forward to a busy but exciting summer.”
The meeting was particularly special for Braw Lad Lewis, whose long-standing girlfriend is Lauder Cornet’s Lass Anneka.
After a presentation by the Lauder’s Ex-Cornets Association to the Braw Lad and Lass, and the Ex-Braw Lads’ and Lasses Association to the Lauder Cornet and Lass, the principals returned to Lauder to dance the Cornet’s Reel.
The first meeting in 1931 was at nearby Colmslie Hill during Braw Lads Week but after the Second World War, it was moved to Threepwood on a Friday in May.
