LATEST: A68 reopened after crash

An elderly woman was freed from her car by firefighters and rushed to hospital with serious injuries this morning (Thursday, June 9) after a crash on the A68.

In all four people were injured in the two-vehicle crash between Bonjedward and Cleikhimin, which was reported to police at around 8am.

Firefighter cut both drivers free from their cars after the collision, and one, a 69-year-old woman, was taken to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary.

Her injuries were said to be “serious but not life -threatening”.

The other driver, a 24-year-old man, was taken to Borders General Hospital for checks, along with two passengers.

The A68 road between Bonjedward and Cleikhimin wasclosed for police to begin their investigations until 3.50pm.
