Landslips hit A68 between Lauder and Earlston

TEMPORARY traffic lights are in operation on two sections of the A68 in the Borders after heavy rain caused embankments to slip, writes Bob Burgess.

Engineers are now examining the severity of the slips which are on a section of the road between Lauder and Earlston and a report will be given to Transport Scotland.

Trunk road maintenance company BEAR said the traffic lights were necessary for the safety of the travelling public and would remain until repairs had been carried out.

The company’s Ian Stewart said : “We will endeavour to resolve the situation as quickly as possible, but due to the nature of the failure it is too early to say how long it will take.

“We thank motorists for their patience and further information will be provided as soon as details of what will be required are known.”
