The local Scottish Labour Party held an anti-Trade Union Bill event in Galashiels last Saturday which was attended by Alex Rowley, Deputy Leader of the Scottish Labour Party who hailed the event as something everyone should be proud of.
Local Labour Party spokesperson and campaign organiser Barrie Cunning said there had also been a good response to the campaign with over 100 people signing a petition.
He said: “What this shows is that irrespective of the way people voted in the general election, people in the Borders really care about workers’ rights and that has to be a good thing.
“We need to take a real stance against these Tory proposals. It’s laughable that they are now referring to themselves as the party of working people when in actual fact they want to restrict workers’ rights.”
