KELSO ROTARIANS READY TO RISE TO AFRICAN MERCY MISSION CHALLENGE

Susie Hope brought this challenge to the Rotary Club of Kelso at its latest meeting: free mothers of Malawi, Sierra Leone and Kenya from the distress of obstetric fistula.

The condition is caused by prolonged, obstructed childbirth. Ann Gloag’s Freedom From Fistula Foundation has been providing free surgeries since 2008 and is currently raising funds to train 200 midwives. Fully trained, they will be in place to prevent the incidence of such injuries. Members felt a project such as this, which will build the foundations of maternity care in Malawi, is deserving of support and are confident Rotary clubs throughout Scotland will rise to the challenge.
