JESSE Rae swaps the polling stations for a return behind the microphone to perform in his home village for the latest St Boswells Live! gig.

Jesse, 60, stood for the Ettrick, Roxburgh and Berwickshire seat at May’s Scottish elections, collecting 308 votes as an independent candidate campaigning for every school, village and town to have its own radio or TV station.

As a funk singer-songwriter he reached number 65 in the UK charts with single Over The Sea in 1985, which was accompanied by an award-winning video.

He also wrote New York-based dance group Odyssey’s 1982 hit Inside Out – it reached number three in the UK top 40.

A friend of Adam Ant, he has twice appeared with the 1980s star in the last two years, the latest a support slot at 02 Academy in Glasgow.

Tickets for the St Boswells Village Hall gig on Friday, July 29, 7.45pm start cost £8 (£4 under 12s, under fives free) and are available from the village post office, telephone 01835 822692.
