A TOP Irish fiddle band make a rare appearance in the UK this month, and include a Heart of Hawick date as part of the venue’s series of roots music events.
Fidil are in the UK for two festivals – BLAS in the Highlands, and WemsFest on the south coast of England. In between, they play a number of gigs in Scotland, including Heart of Hawick on Friday, September 21.
The County Donegal trio were described as “mesmerising” by BBC Radio Scotland’s Travelling Folk presenter and Blazin’ Fiddles member Bruce MacGregor after seeing them play in the Highlands.
The band made a return to Glasgow’s Celtic Connections Festival in January following a successful year in which they had a triumphant musical collaboration with renowned Senegal kora player Solo Cissokho, toured in America, Canada and Germany to widespread acclaim and went back into the studio to record a brand new album.
The record was a follow-up to Fidil 3, the first traditional music CD to receive a five-star review in The Irish Times.
The release of The Old Wheel of Fortune in 2011 was also well received.
Tickets (£12/£10 conc) for Fidil’s Heart of Hawick show, 7.30pm start, can be bought by phoning 01450 360688.
