The unveiling of a cairn in memory of Nan Lyle MBE, who died last year, will take place this Sunday at Whitchesters Hill near her native town of Hawick.
The cairn is to be a lasting tribute to a woman who was honoured in 1988 for her services to the community and Scouting.
She was also a keen walker and climber who completed nine walks across Scotland with the Great Outdoors Challenge.
Now her friends and family have issued an invitation for lovers of the great outdoors to join them on a four-mile walk to witness the unveiling.
It will leave Hawick Moor at 1pm en route to Whitchesters Hill, returning to Hawick via Haysike. Those who who cannot make it to the walk or the unveiling are invited to enjoy a cuppa in St Mary’s Church Hall, Buccleuch Street, Hawick, from around 4pm.
“Nan, who did so much for the town, loved nothing more than to be out and about in the hills surrounding Hawick, so we’re hoping for a large turnout on Sunday,” said co-organiser Angela Cumming.
To register for the walk, go to www.nan-lyle.org and click on the Opening Walk link, or call 01450 371185/372085 or 374491.
