UNPAID carers are to be offered free training on now to deal with stress.
Organised by the Borders Care Learning Network (BCLN), a workshop in how to handle stress is one of several to assist people who care for a family member, friend or neighbour.
Mary Daykin, of BCLN, said: “Unpaid carers don’t have the same access to training as paid carers.
“We hope that these sessions will help them cope and feel more confident.
“We also want to help them to understand more about the illness or condition of the person they caring for and how to deal with it.”
The one-day courses, funded by NHS Borders, will run in different towns during the next two months and will cover mental health awareness, assertiveness, basic first aid, managing risk and skills for getting involved.
